Happy almost-fall, Dharma friends!

Can you believe summer is already winding down? The days are getting a little shorter, pumpkin spice is making its annual comeback, and here at the Oregon Buddhist Temple, we’re getting ready for a busy and wonderful fall season.

Our September issue of our newsletter, PureLand Path, is now available, and it’s packed with news, reflections, and lots of opportunities to connect with our OBT community.

One of the themes Rev. Vonn Magnin explores this month is the Autumnal Equinox, when day and night are in balance. It’s a fitting time to pause and think about balance in our own lives and our journey as Shin Buddhists. We’ll celebrate the season together with our Fall Ohigan Service on Sunday, September 27 at 10 AM.

And September has plenty of other opportunities to gather! On September 19, we’ll have a free screening of Carving the Divine, followed by a discussion and Q&A with filmmaker Yujiro Seki. It’s part of our Buddhism In Our Times series and is open to everyone — so bring a friend who might be curious about Buddhism, Japanese art, or just a great documentary. More info can be found at the event page.

Then on September 20, we’ll gather for our Shotsuki Hoyo Memorial Service, remembering loved ones who passed away during September. That day also brings our first OBT offsite social gathering, “Buddhism, Buddies & Boba.”

And if you’re already thinking ahead to October, be sure to save the date for one of our favorite fall traditions: the OBT Sukiyaki Fall Bazaar! 🍲🍁

Join us on Sunday, October 25 from 12–3 PM for sukiyaki, with both dine-in and pick-up options. There will also be other foods available, including vegan and vegetarian options. If you'd like to order sukiyaki for pick-up or dine-in, orders are due by October 11. More info can be found at the event page.

And that’s just a taste of what’s ahead. From regular services and meditation to study, social gatherings, volunteer opportunities, and upcoming community events, there are lots of ways to make OBT part of your fall.

So, as we ease out of summer and into autumn, we hope you’ll take a look at the September PureLand Path, mark your calendars, and join us for some of these upcoming events.

Happy end of summer, everyone — and here’s to a wonderful fall together! 🍂

Namo Amida Butsu! 🙏
