On Sunday, July 20th, Oregon Buddhist Temple had Hatsubon Service (a memorial service held to commemorate the first anniversary of a person's passing) and July Shotsuki Hoyo Monthly Memorial Service ( memorial service held monthly, specifically to honor those who passed away during that particular month), conducted by Rev. Ron Kobata.

We had seven people we honored for Hatsubon Service.

Onaijin was decorated with special fabric, and Obon lanterns were hung. Lanterns with the Hatsubon names were lit.

Sangha and guests offered incense during the service, as the names of the deceased were read out.

Rev. Kobata shared the Dharma messages for children and for adults.

and OBT Choir sang a gatha on Obon that they had been practicing for several weeks.

After the service, Rev. Kobata led Nokotsudo Service in the back room.
It was a solemn and a special service that made you feel calm and grateful.
Thank you to Rev. Kobata for leading the serviceand sharing your Dharma messages. Thank you to everyone who were part of preparing for this Special Service - from preparing the lanterns, the slides, flowers, the rice, the offerings in onaijin, and so much more things that go unnoticed.
