Obon Fest is here!!!!
... well ---almost here !!!
This week had been a crazy fun one with all the sangha and volunteers preparing for our Obon Festival. From ground clean up to preparing delicious sweets, from last minute communicating to volunteers, writing names on lanterns, to last dance practice before the Obon Fest!
This year, we will not have paper programs, so please refer back to our website for maps, schedule, and other information on ObonFest. There will be Information Booth, and the people there will help you if you need to find out something!
We are trying to use all the temple grounds this year, unlike in the past when we used the parking lot and the streets.
In the front of the temple building, there will be exhibits of beautiful flower arrangements by Ikebana International. On the side garden , there will be children's game corner and youth-led activity area. Come check out this area for games and crafts!
Parking lot side has Beer Garden and Food Booths, lots of delicious food!!
And there will be sitting areas to enjoy outside performances by Obukan Kendo Club, Tsubaki Buyo Doukoukai, Aikido Hibiki and Portland Taiko.
And between the performances and great food, come inside the temple building!
In the entrance lobby, you will find exhibit of Haiku poems by Oregon Haiku Group, and Book Panel of "They Never Asked".
As you enter from the lobby into the serene, cool hondo, you will notice one side has exhibition of beautiful calligraphy and art by the late Mrs. Judy Yamauchi. The other side of hondo has exhibition of artworks of three sangha members, Beth, Mayu and Maho.
In the Hondo, there will be temple talks by Rev. Koyama, book talks by Duane Watari and Shelly Baker-Gard, and video showing.
In the lower level of the temple building, we have lots of great things on sale!!!
Kimono! Yukata! Happi jackets!
Books and Religious items!
Antiques and other Japanese and Asian items!
Pop Culture items!!
and then at 7pm,
we will start DANCING!!!
Come to the temple tomorrow and Dance with everyone!
