Our temple follows Jodo Shinshu (also known as Shin) Buddhism, a sect in the Pureland stream of Mahayana Buddhism. Shin was founded by Shinran Shonin (1173 - 1263 CE) in Japan during the Kamakura period. Today, Shin is the largest Buddhist sect in Japan with 10 schools and approximately 25 million adherents. Our head temple is Nishi Hongwanji in Kyoto Japan.
